Inesis 900 is a highly underrated golf club brand that has a proven track record of achieving impressive results all while remaining at a lower price point when compared to popular brands like Callaway and TaylorMade.
While many golfers prefer to remain loyal to the tried and tested familiar brands, there is something to be said for going outside of the club box.
Brands like Decathlon’s Inesis, are less familiar to newer players but are often undervalued. They are seen as “not cool” and one offs. However, for infrequent fair weather golfers, cheaper and clone golf clubs help to provide a pathway into an otherwise expensive sport.
The Set
If you purchase Decathlon’s Inesis 900 Combo Irons Set you can expect to receive 6 irons from pitching wedge to 5-iron, giving you plenty of different short, mid and long club options on the fairway.
However, you might notice that the set doesn’t include every iron 4-iron and 3-iron and unfortunately there isn’t an option to purchase individual iron with Inesis.
The set is available in a variety of different shaft options such as slow speed graphite or high speed steel. In addition to the different materials and shaft speeds on offer I was also able to order them in a size 1 or size 2 helping to cater to shorter and taller golfers.
The Short Irons
In the Inesis 900 iron set the short irons are designed with a narrow sole and thin toplines which helps to give you greater levels of control and feel.
These short irons have a traditional loft, making it easier to hit the shorter chip shots closer to the green or when taking a shot out of the rough.
The Mid Irons
These are best thought of as your 5, 6, 7 irons and usually are your most used golf iron group as they are perfect for on the fairway to drive the ball a reasonable distance and height.
Similar to popular brands Inesis has designed their 900 mid irons set to be somewhat hollow to be forgiving and generate speed on impact with a golf ball to travel the distance.
Long Irons
Long irons also known as utility irons are solely used to allow golfers to hit further, therefore the Inesis 900 combo irons have been made to be very strong and durable yet reasonably forgiving.
When played right the angle of these irons allow for golfers to achieve optimal levels of launch helping the golf balls punch into the air and travel far making them an ideal club to choose if you’re quite far from the green.
Pros
- Affordable price point.
- Suitable for right and left handed players.
- Designed for advanced amateur golfers.
- Relatively forgiving irons considering the targeted player.
Cons
- Unable to purchase Inesis irons individually.
- Limited club customisation available.
Affordable Price
Inesis is marketing itself as a high performing brand yet at a more affordable price point. Decathlon’s Inesis 900 Combo Iron Set comes with a classic look and a quality feel, however, if I’m honest with this set costing anything from £599 it’s more expensive than knock-off golf clubs but not quite as costly as top tier brands.
Golf Handicap Suitability
These irons promise a forgiving feel despite being aimed towards more experienced players. This is because the Inesis 900 irons are not made with a high degree of loft which beginner golfers often rely on to spin a golf ball and achieve the distance, hence why they are made for mid to low handicap golfers.
In my opinion having both myself and boyfriend tested these clubs it’s clear to see they are produced for a player who is looking to land the ball in a more precise location, without giving up forgiveness.
Design
The looks of your irons is important but not the be-all and end-all, instead one of the most crucial factors of your golf clubs is the design. The Inesis 900 combo irons have been created for a better player but the golf club aesthetic hasn’t been lost in the process.
In my opinion these irons look quite slick with clean lines and are on par with popular irons such as the Titleist 718 AP1 irons.
As this set is aimed at mid to low handicappers they have been manufactured to include certain features such as the levels of offset on the short irons and long irons helping you to have maximum control and connection while maintaining standard levels of forgiveness.
Performance
When we tested the Inesis 900 combo iron set out we both loved the feel and control from the short irons. The lofts throughout the set is quite standard, so if you are looking for all-out distance, these might not fit the bill. However, the ball flight and distance control was outstanding.
Another aspect we loved was how the thin soles cut through the turf providing a really pure contact through the swing. For confident ball-strikers who want to look down on thin toplines in the short irons, these offer truly impressive performance.
A common worry with golfers is that as you move into the mid to long irons is that you’ll lose the feeling and control you get with the shorter irons. In our experience we did notice a slight difference in connection when testing the Inesis 900 combo mid irons. Having said that we were both pleasantly surprised by how consistent the distance control was when hitting shots from around 180-yards.
Conclusion
Overall, If you are a player just starting out, then these clubs are not for you because as a beginner you’ll need irons with a larger clubhead and a bigger sweetspot to help you consistently achieve accurate shots.
Whereas if you are a mid or low handicap golfer, with a good level of experience on a variety of courses and a limited budget then these clubs could be a good fit for you and are worth testing out.
