Drivers are a golfer’s most cherished possession. No matter what any golfer says, they always prefer to use their favorite driver wherever and whenever they can. Part of this comes from the power that a player feels during the swing. Other times, it comes more so from the pure need to get the ball as close to the green as they possibly can in a single stroke. Entire competitions center on this single aspect of the game. So, it’s no wonder that players are very particular about their club. Most go for the top name brands. Sticking with the tried and true technologies of TaylorMade and Callaway. However, a brand that is often overlooked is Ping. Ping has been used by various styles of players over the years: even making it into the bags of professional players. Yet, it still seems to be underutilized. So today, we will be taking a look at the Ping G Le2 Driver: the newest in Ping’s lineup for women players.
Women’s Club
There are a few differences between a men’s driver and a women’s driver. These differences usually come in the grip and the weight. However, over the years club manufacturers have begun making clubs more androgynous. Players now come in various heights, weights, and grip strengths. Yet, there is something to be said about clubs that take the time to dial-in the technology to female players. It’s subtle, but enough to make a difference in a player’s game. Sort of like golf shoes. The spikes are the same, but the fit is just a bit better.
What to look for
Drivers are a unique breed of club. All clubs have to be felt out by the player that will be handling them. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for a player to like or not like a club. However, there are a few factors to keep in mind when determining what style of driver is right for you. These come down to four things: accuracy/control, swing/feel, speed, and forgivability.
The Ping G Le2 Driver was made for more moderate swing players. Not moderate in playing level. That is an entirely different matter. This club is made for a player that prefers not to throw their whole weight into the drive. Instead, using a tapered or moderate backswing. The issue that many of these players will then loose speed on the ball: the speed being what controls the balls spin and accuracy. The clubs more aerodynamic look and design allows for a faster swing with less resistance. Therefore, the distance on this club was decent and fairly standard for a Ping Driver: as they are more known for control.
Speaking of control, this club combines accuracy and forgivability. It allows a player to have a solid performance while still being forgiving of those pesky odd shots. While a driver that values accuracy and moderation is not the snazziest of the bunch, it is a favorable option to have in your bag. Golf, especially where driving is concerned, is more about the long game. A driver that grants consistent, forgiving, and yet powerful balls is a useful one.
