TaylorMade SIM2 Driver Review

Contemplating a new driver? Need something with a little bit more bite? A driver that’s going to give you a lower launch and thus help you generate those all-important extra yards off the tee? The Taylormade SIM2 might just be the answer.

Who is the SIM2 aimed at?

While the TaylorMade SIM2 isn’t as much of an all-rounder as the newer SIM2 Max, it’s still suitable for a variety of golfers. Ideally, though, the SIM2 is suitable for players with a mid-to-low handicap, or players with a higher swing speed, who are looking both for a lower launch and to generate less spin with their drive.

Key Features of the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver Review

Associated with top-of-the-range golfing equipment, as the name suggests, Taylormade have been churning out great clubs since Tiger Woods was a junior. Golfers far and wide recognise the branding and they expect something of the highest quality. Does the SIM2 driver meet expectations? The short answer has to be yes.

So, what are the key features of the TaylorMade SIM 2 Driver. Similar to the original SIM Driver, the SIM2 features much the same design, though it’s lighter, which makes it feel more wealdable to the average player. The SIM2 also has a different weighting system to the SIM.

Making use of aerodynamics, the SIM2 Driver helps players to create more club head speed. TaylorMade technologies such as Speed Inject™ and Twist Face™ also allow for faster ball speeds.

In terms of ball flight, the SIM2 is reasonably neutral, with most players reporting a typically mid trajectory.

Not as forgiving as the SIM2 Max, the SIM2 is customisable, which means that players can choose from a range of custom set-ups, depending on how they want to shape the ball or help correct a certain shot tendency.

What are people saying?

The general feedback among amateur players is that the SIM2 is a driver that is easy to use, while the overwhelming majority seem to be happy with what the club has done for their game, which is reflected by the fact that popular golfing magazine Golf Digest gave the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver a gold medal on their Hot List back in 2021.

Players that have already added the SIM2 to their bag rate it highly, with Amazon purchasers awarding the club an average 4.7/5. Those who bought directly from the TaylorMade website go with an average rating of 4.8/5.

Pros

  • Lighter than its predecessor (TaylorMade SIM)
  • Perfect for players with a high swing speed
  • Ideal for generating less spin and achieving lower launch off the tee
  • Has a satisfying feel, both when swinging and at impact
  • Great for adding distance

Cons

  • Lower launch not what everyone needs
  • Not great for players with slower swing speeds
  • Better options for higher handicap players

Final word on the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver Review

Better than TaylorMade’s SIM Driver, the SIM 2 is great for distance, shaping shots, while it looks and feels great.

It’s not ideal for everyone, though. If you are searching for a stylish, lightweight driver then the SIM2, which will help those players with a high-speed swing reach that bit farther off the tee, is a good choice. That said, as good as it looks, if you’re a high handicapper looking for a driver of a forgiving nature, then there are more suitable options than the SIM2, which isn’t exactly known for its forgiveness.
